Chord Library
Chordbaby has a vast chord library that you can use in your chord sheets. Additionally, you can use this library to learn new chords or remember old ones. You can check the chord symbols, chord pronunciations, and fingerings for different instruments.
Chord Library Page
In the Chord Library page, you can see all the chords that Chordbaby recognizes. You can also search and compose chords.
Quick Select
In the Quick Select section, the 2 most popular chord types (major and minor) are shown. You can quickly select a popular chord in this section.
Compose Chord
In the Compose Chord section, you can compose a chord by selecting a note and a chord type, and optionally a slash chord.
Search Chord
Instead of using the buttons on the UI to select a chord, you can directly use the chord search to search for chord symbols (e.g., “A”) and pronunciations (e.g., “la major”) to select a chord.
Editor Chord Library
You can see a smaller version of the Chord Library in the editor. This is useful when you are preparing your chord sheet to quickly try out different chords. After you have found the right chord, you can also quickly add it to your distinct chords.
Empty Chord / No Chord (NC)
There might be sections in a song that have no chords at all. You can use the symbol “NC” on your chord sheets to represent an empty chord (no chord). You can also synchronize NC symbols with music, which will clear the instrument fingerings and display “No chord” on the instrument.
Use the “NC” symbol to represent an empty chord (no chord).
Slash Chords
A slash chord is a chord where a note different from the chord’s root is designated as the lowest note (bass note). It is written with the chord symbol, a forward slash (/), and then the bass note, such as C/G, meaning a C major chord is played with a G in the bass. Slash chords are used to create smooth bass lines, add color to chord progressions, and simplify the notation of chord inversions or specific bass notes.
Unrecognized Chords
There are many chords in music theory. It is impossible to recognize all of them. However, Chordbaby recognizes most of them. Additionally, we intentionally did not include some chord types to avoid bloating the application size and make it faster.
Chordbaby’s chord sheet parser can understand almost all chord types on your chord sheet even if they are not in its chord library. It will correctly structure the chord blocks and colorize the chords. It might even correctly tell you the symbol and pronunciation of the chord. However, if it does not have the chord in the chord library, it will not be able to show the fingerings on your chosen instrument.
